'POSTCARDS FROM HOME'
We never get postcards from home; instead, they are the brief and colourful missives we send from far-off and exotic places to let those left behind know of our adventures.
Not this time.
These paintings are a series of vignettes of Melbourne, as experienced by me. I spent countless hours walking around Melbourne in preparation for this show and chose to paint those things I saw which most aggressively clung to my memory - for this reason they are deeply personal vignettes, they are mine, no one else can have quite the same ones.
At the same time, I hope that they will remind you of similar things in your own experiences, and we can smile together at the things we share without necessarily knowing.
These are paintings of Melbourne but, ultimately, they are paintings of my Melbourne.
